We ENGAGE Communities

KELASO works with communities organization and Community Development Officers to identify development projects that will improve infrastructure and living conditions in impoverished areas. We also look at ways to identify or maximize economic conditions.

Our approach is one of collaboration. We approach each project with a view to partnership with the communities we work with. The process starts with a community consultation to identify opportunities, barriers and a strategy for moving forward. Village members are active participants in the solutions identified and work hand-in-hand with us on the implementation.

KELASO in action:
  • In 2021 KELASO partnered with OneLove Africa Foundation to develop a 3-acre fish farm in the Kifaru area. This social enterprise will provide high-quality tilapia to the local community where food is very scarce.

  • The Summit Samaki Centre will also train local women how to start small fish businesses. KELASO and OneLove will sell the women them fish at reduced prices and provide credit during their start=up phase.
  •  The longer-term vision is to create a Community Resource Centre on the property that can be a centre for visiting doctors, health services, community development programming and a place for meetings and events.
